Of Gaint, the Gateway to Drala
As preserved in the annals of Witch Lord Bertwin Gisking Bearspear

The Gaint Star Sector stands as one of the oldest harbors of the Glessum Furse in the Drucos Nebula, a place where exiles first planted their banners, and where kings first tasted the bitter wine of conquest.

In the long shadow of the Thousand Years of Darkness, when the Wergh swept into the Glessum Star Cluster and the Skane Nebula through the Great Gates between galaxies, the Furse of Glessum fled. This age, marked by the Glessum Shattering and the Great Flight, brought with it some of the fiercest warlords of our kind to Drala.

These two, and many others, offered their swords to King Guinevere Gollach Druidborn, the Supreme Lord, and to other Feyan-Galan rulers. Yet treachery answered loyalty, betrayal that cost the Feyan-Galan their thrones. In the wake of the slaughter they had intended for the Glessum Furse, many of their starholds fell, and the first Glessum-born Dralan star kingdoms took root in Gaint.

House Umbra Lightningborn, followed by House Umbra Stoneborn, were the first to wear crowns here. King Ella Umbra Stoneborn, the Overlord, rose above them all, becoming the first High King of the Glessum-born realms in Drala.

Over centuries, the Gaint Sector became the crossroads of kings. Here passed House Umbra Hearthborn, Strongborn, Wyvernborn, Frostborn, Stormborn, Loreborn, and a score more from the great Tribe Umbra of Furse Space, though some, like the Wyvernborn, prefer to forget their own blood’s passage through these stars. Others, lesser in name but fierce in arms, used Gaint as a waystation, a place to replenish fleets, gather oaths, and launch wars deeper into Drala.

Thus Gaint became known as the Gateway to Drala, a title both blessing and curse. Kings have advanced through it to invade the Drucos Nebula. Kings have moved out from it to conquer beyond. And kings have risen within it, forged from the iron of conquest.

Its position is one of both fortune and peril, on the very edge of Drala, with borders touching the Suth Star Cluster and the Morimarusa Nebula. Through the ancient Feyan Star-Gate Network, Gaint links directly to the Gulla Nebula, commanding the only gate binding Drala to the wider expanse of Feyan Space along the Dralan Trade Route. This made it wealthy beyond its numbers, for Gaint has ever been sparsely populated, a result of endless war, reaver raids from Skanes, and the ceaseless struggles of the great star kingdoms for control of the gate.

Gewiss, Iken, and Angul each claimed Gaint’s stars in their time, making and unmaking lords as power shifted like the tides.

When Gewiss at last conquered the Star Kingdom of Gaint, it bound the sector to its crown. For generations, the Crown Prince of Gewiss ruled here as Under-King, using the sector as both power base and proving ground before taking the throne of Gewiss itself. This custom ended only when rule was restored to House Umbra Lightningborn, and later when House Rethe Grimborn was granted the high seat as Sector-lords.

The Great Savage Crusade brought years of devastation. Gaint’s star systems were plundered, its trade lanes broken, and Skane warlords ruled many of its worlds. Only with the victory of Osgar the Great did the Crusade end, and the Lightningborn were restored as lords of the sector, but a short time.

Gaint’s people hail chiefly from the Ancient Star Kingdom of Jotar in the Glessum star cluster, and some still call the realm by that name. But Gaint, an older name from the tongues of the Galan peoples, endured, for it had been written in maps and song long before the Furse came.

In its deepest history, the Gaint Star Sector was divided among three crowns.

The Star Kingdom of Gaint (Gaint Star System and Brigae Star System),
The Star Kingdom of Regnen (Regnen Star System and Haesta Star System),
And the Star Kingdom of Atrebas (Atrebas Star System).

Now, the banners have changed, the crowns are gone, and the lords answer to the King of the Star Commonwealth. Yet the gateway remains, and as long as there are kings, it will open for them.
